Thoughtful Journalism
I worked as a film and music journalist for nearly ten years, publishing serious criticism on new and archival releases on a weekly basis. I was proudest, however, of my interviews.
I always tried to dig deep, even when talking to celebrities. I'd often get them talking about how their childhood experiences shaped their artistic perspective and personal style.
One of my favorite compliments came from the manager of folk/blues musician David Bromberg, who I interviewed for Slant Magazine. "Thanks for the excellent piece you did," he wrote me. "So often the interviews are stock pieces but you really dug in to his background and brought out something new."
